Pipe Dreams

I think that Adam Graham is well meaning, but his brand of politics amazes me. It seems to me that he came of age when the national conservatives, heavily backed and influenced by religious fundamentalists, were peaking, and he concluded that they were the natural order of politics. Living in Idaho only reinforced that. Now that the pendulum is swinging back toward the center, he looks back at the peak of the arc and thinks that the pendulum is on a liberal upswing.

If you have any doubts, check out his wish list. Some highlights.

2) George Bush unleashing the veto pen. ... If Bush comes back strong, we can hold back the Democrat's crazy legislative agenda,

Yes, working 5 days a week in congress, stopping earmarks, investigating fraud in Iraq contracting, all pretty crazy.

3) … make strides in reforming public education. It's going to be hard road, but should Republicans deliver, I think we'll win back the vote of a lot of people who voted Democrat despite backing conservative ballot measures.

So the guy with the online degree in weights and measures, who isn’t certified to teach and has never taught, will have successful reform. Adam, don’t mistake change for progress.
6) … There's a great deal of hope that Mitch McConnell will be able to reign in the Democrats. … he may be able to help get another Supreme Court Justice through without having to give away the store.
Mitch McConnell is the poster boy of election reform obstruction. Rooting for him in congress is rooting for the biggest impediment to making congress accountable to the voters instead of corporations.

And of course
7) Bill Sali shines. [Million Dollar] Bill “may be a perfect fit” … “to lead a charge for common sense.”
Amazing: Bill Sali and common sense in the same paragraph. Adam, I’m afraid you’re in for many years of disappointment. Things are going to get a lot worse, from your viewpoint, before they get better.
