Risch Disses Electorate, Except in Boise, Ducks Debate

The Statesman reprinted on page 2, and the Idaho State Journal on page 10, an article by John Miller of the AP noting that Gov Risch has declined the League of Women Voters debates that would be broadcast statewide by Idaho Public TV. Risch did agree to a debate on KTVB, which broadcasts in the Boise area.

No word on the format of the KTVB debate, but apparently Risch stuck to his tired canard that he's worried about LaRocco being disruptive. Risch doesn't give any example of LaRocco being disruptive, nor does he give any reason why he thinks LaRocco might be disruptive. Frankly, this is just a blatant lie that shows his lack of respect for Idaho voters, believing that we're stupid enough not to see through this. If he doesn't want to debate, fine, just say so.

To make it even more egregious, Risch's spokesperson (his son) gives this additional reason for ducking the debate
"Unfortunately, the governor's schedule does not allow him to accept every invitation," Jason Risch said.
To me, probably the most important thing on the governor/candidate's schedule should be letting the voters know where he stands on issues. The Gov found time to get his picture taken with the wounded parole officer in Pocatello, but he can't find time to inform voters?

I also think that this reveals the problem with Idaho's proclivity to blindly vote Republican. Risch ducks debates and ignores voters (except the priviledged ones in Boise; to hell with everyone else), and Otter shows up only to raise money. He couldn't be bothered to debate either, or walk in the EISF parade.

If or no other reason, Idaho Rs ought to vote in some Dems and send the strong signal to the R leadership that they don't like being taken for granted.

Risch is "ducking" the debate.
