This is not the type of leader Idahoans want to send to Washington

I got a copy of the 2005 Weekly Bill Status, Final Edition, and checked the Legislature’s website , and found the following. Bill Sali is serving on two committees in the Idaho House of Representatives; 1) Health & Welfare, 2) Judiciary, Rules and Administration. Although he was on his 8th term in 2006, he is Chair or Vice-Chair of no committee. The Chair of the H&W Committee was on her 3rd term, and the Vice-Chair was on her 2nd term. The Chair of the JRA Committee was on her 6th term, and the Vice- Chair on his 4th term.

Comparing Sali to House Republicans, all Representatives had some type of leadership position by at least the 4th term, except Sali. Many were in leadership positions by the 3rd term. (Leadership positions are Chair, Vice-Chair, Speaker, Majority Leader and Asst Maj Leader, Caucus Chair, etc.)

Committee Chair positions carry a great deal of influence and power. Sali had none. We can conclude either Sali was not interested in a Chair position, or his fellow Republicans would not give him one. He doesn’t want leadership, or he can’t earn and keep it. In 16 years. Ineffective by his choice, or by the choice of his fellow Republicans.

Sali had been chair of health and welfare. He was removed from the position a couple of terms ago by the Speaker due to his ineffectual 'leadership.'

While you're at it, look at how many bills he sponsored. When I went through the Legislature's web site, I found just one -- one on tax breaks to gun clubs, which he did as a favor to one of his extremist cronies who owns a gun store.

I looked at the 2005 data, and found 5 or 6 for which he was the floor sponsor. Amending the rules for guardianships, sex offender registration, transfers of property from former sheriffs to current ones, and the parental consenet law. Only the latter made much of a splash.

My wife testified before the H and W committee with Sali as the chair and was treated like a piece of trash. Even though she was one of 5 physicians he made wait 4 hours to testify (one actually left, delivered and baby and came back to the statehouse) he was cold and was turned around talking to someone behind him and shuffling papers while she spoke. When 2 fifteen year old girls got up to speak and just giggled at each other for 5 minutes, chairman Sali thanked them profusely (they spoke on his side) and told them how proud of them he was.

I wrote Bruce Newcomb the next day and told him what had happened and he told me he had heard the same from others and Mr. Sali would not have his chairmanship the next session. True to his word, Sali was out on his pompous ass the next January.

I only hope the voters of the 1st District have enough self-respect to vote for such a dishonest and small-brained individual.
