Send In The Clowns

Having traveled to Seattle and back last week, airline security is on my mind, and I'm annoyed. Yes, it's good news that the TSA (Thousands Standing Around) is relaxed the ban on liquids and gels. You can now carry on 3 oz or less of your favorite lip gloss.

What galls me is the thoughtlessness of these decisions. Some plot emerges in England based in the mixing chemicals idea that's been around for years. The TSA, or perhaps Homeland Security, freaks and bans all liquids. Again, the idea wasn't new. There was no indication of such a plot in the US.

Now that they've lifted it, what is that decision based on? Have they rounded up everyone who might mix chemicals on planes? If so, why not lift the ban? If not, why lift the ban? Was the ban unnecessary in the first place?

These clowns just do stuff to try to look like they're keeping us safe. "Don't just stand there, do something." My traveling companion forgot and went through security with a small tube of lip gloss in her pocket. The TSA had no way to check for this. Their ban was pointless and unenforceable. Running your shoes through the x-ray? Might find a hidden knife, but it's not going to detect plastique or C4 explosive. Just a pointless inconvenience.
