On candidate Bill Sali's web site, you can find a Gross National Debt meter here. I don't agree much with Mr. Sali, but I've gotta admit the GND meter is pretty cool.
It's pretty distressing, though morbidly fascinating, to watch the thing grow higher and higher. It's like watching a car wreck.
During the latter Clinton years it was going down, not up. Good grief; why don't the GOPers put two and two together. Hmmmm...... Deficit going down while Clinton is in office, shooting way back up while Bush is in office. Oh, that's right, I'm a fiscal conservative; I must vote GOP. "My mind is made up; don't confuse me with the facts."
