When I worked down in Silicon Valley as a Field Engineer I was confronted with a wide array of unusual names. One of my fellow engineers first name was Pfuc, which he insisted on having on his business cards. Many emigrants chose an anglicized name to avoid embarrassment.

We hosted a Thai foreign exchange student that was known simply as "F" by her family, which is also the name for water in Thai. She quickly changed her name after the first couple of weeks in high school here. We asked her what her family would call her when she returned home and it was F so our family called her F at home and Eva in public.

She appears to be of Asian extraction, so that explains the last name, I guess. Buffy, OTOH, doesn't come across as Asian at all, so it's a interesting combination.

P.S. Buffy is such an innocuous name, could you imagine some body saying "put the gun down Buffy and nobody gets hurt". Well maybe at the reading of the "rich uncle's" will.
