You Know Who I Feel Sorry For?

Julie at Red State Rebels. Larry "Wide Stance" Craig is THE Idaho political scandal in at least a decade, and Julie can't, or rather, won't, comment on it due to her affiliation with the LaRocco campaign. A smart and classy move, but, boy, it's got to be tough on her.

And on that note, let's all encourage Craig to run again. Larry, show that you're a fighter, that quitting would be an admission of wrongdoing. At the minimum, please finish your term, but preferably, run for another.

I think that as wounded as Craig is, him running again would be LaRocco's best shot at taking the seat. LaRocco's got a shot anyway, but Craig running again would help.

A final question. Richard Stallings called for Sali to resign because of his religous bigotry. I guess to be consistent Stallings will call for Craig to resign. Doing so might even prod Larry into resisting even more. So, will Stallings, or has he already and I missed it, call for Wide Stance's resignation?

I don't really think Stallings is being inconsistent. Sali's religious bigotry directly inhibits his ability to participate as a representative in a secular government. Craig is just blushing. There is the problem of a legislator breaking a law, but if he's going to deal with the punishment, it seems like the system is working to me. And I'm just not craven enough to get excited about using Idaho's homophobia as a tool to wedge a Democrat into office.

I think that Chairman Stallings is taking the position of most Democrats on this--we don't need to touch this, Craig and the Republicans are taking care of *that* for us. It wouldn't surprise me if the DNC has counseled Stallings on how to handle this. I appreciate the way Stallings is handling the situation and am impressed with his class. For those who know Stallings well, it must be killing him, too, as it is Julie, to not be able to say much at all about the situation.

Thanks, Alan. I appreciate the mention.

I have many changes coming up. I accepted a new job in July that I start next week; it's a nonpartisan gig that will see me backing off the political blogging. So this is actually good training for me. I'll have more details at RSR in the coming days.

But what a way to end my partisan political career ...

And here I thought it would be Suzanne Craig.

Well, I do kind of feel sorry for her. If Craig isn't hetero she's got to know, even if only because he would not have much interest in sexual relations with her. Even if she knows, she's pretty blameless but will still have live through this. Kind of like Rev. Ted Haggard's wife and kids.
